2018 Annual Wage Increase of 3.5%
Effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2018
New wage rate schedules can be found under Documents once logged in and it should be noted that Sunday penalty rates for full time and part time employees has reduced a further 10% down to a 160% penalty.
Updated Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2010
The Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2010 (the HIGA) has been updated to incorporate the annual wage review and associated allowances and the updated copy of the HIGA can be found under Documents once logged in.
Fair Work Information Statement
Employers are obligated to give all new employees a copy of the Fair Work Information Statement. The updated July 2018 Fair Work Information Statement can be found under Documents once logged in. The Fair Work Information is also available in other languages, if required.
High Income Threshold
The high income threshold is the amount wherein an employee earning above this threshold is excluded from making an unfair dismissal claim this threshold has increased to $145,400 per annum from 1 July 2018.
457 Visa minimum salary
The minimum salary level is currently $53,900 and there has not, to date, been any increase announced by the Federal Government. This figure is called the TSMIT (Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold), and is generally varied every July. It should be noted that visa workers cannot be paid less than the award minimum entitlements for their employment classification.
Unfair Dismissal and General Protections filing fee
The employee application fee to make an unfair dismissal claim or general protections claim has increased to $71.90 from 1 July 2018. The unfair dismissal claims compensation limit increases to $72.700 or a maximum of six months pay from 1 July 2018.
Redundancy Thresholds
As from 1 July 2018 the tax free threshold for bona fide redundancy payments will increase to $10.399 as a base limit and $5,200 for each year of service. The ordinary employment termination payment (ETP) tax rate will remain at 32% or 17% as the case may be.
